La disminucion de expresion del gen de gh y de su secreccion determina una disminucion de expresion de genes diana: disminucion de acumulacion del arnm de igf-i y de igfbp-3 en higado, asi como niveles mas bajos de igf-i circulante. En tejidos extrahepataicos el envejecimiento causa una disminucion del transcrito igf-i.B en hipofisis e hipotalamo. El envejecimiento no modifica la acumulacion de arnm de los transcritos alternativos de la transcripcion del gen del receptor de gh en higado y tejidos extrahepaticos como hemisferios cerebrales, ri\u00f1on y testiculo. La disminucion de la expresion del gen de gh y de su tasa de secrecion, se deben unicamente al envejecimiento y no al aumento de peso que acompa\u00f1a al envejecimiento. Estos estudios sugieren que gh exogena puede tener accion mitotrofica sobre el sistema nervioso central de ratas viejas, evidenciando que el cerebro senil es un organo sensible a
