Pero tampoco se ha descuidado el analisis del aspecto externo de los personajes, a los que se han asignado mascaras (a partir del catalogo de polux, onomasticon, iv, 143-154) cuyo significado etologico se ha tratado de dilucidar a partir de la physiognomica pseudoaristotelica. El mensaje que transmiten las mascaras sobre los personajes es del mismo tipo que el que ofrecen sus nombres propios, informando ambos elementos de la categoria de dramatis personae a que pertenece la figura en cuestion, y de algunos rasgos basicos de su caracter. Por esta causa se ha abordado conjuntamente el analisis de esos dos medios de caracterizacion; y se ha confrontado su mensaje con el contenido al respecto en el texto
