Estos dos nuevos genes definen un grupo de homolog\u00eda que incluye a agl15 y agl17 de arabidopsis.  nuestros datosson compatibles con la existencia de, al menos, dos loci cromosomicos para stmads16, ambos con probablemente la misma funcion. Las proteinas codificadas por estos genes tienen una distribucion de dominios similares a los ya descritos anteriormente en otros factores mads, y contienen potenciales sitios de fosforilacion y glicosilacion que los convierte en posibles dianas para su modificacion posterior. El patron de expresion de ambos es similar, con altos niveles de expresion en hojas, tallos, raices, estolones y tuberculos en desarrollo. La distribucion del transcrito de stmads16 sugiere que no se encuentra especificamente implicado en procesos de tuberizacion. Los analisis de hibridacion \u00abin situ\u00bb revelan una distribucion uniforme del transcrito en todos los tipos celulares. El analisis de los fenotipos de plantas transgenicas que expresan de forma ectopica el transcrito de stmads16, sugiere que su producto esta implicado en el mantenimiento de la actividad meristematica durante el desarrollo de distintos tejidos u organos vegetativos, en donde se expresa de forma habitual. Finalmente, hemos detectado ortologos de stmads16 en otras especies solanaceas relacionadas pertenecientes al genero solanum, lycopersicon, capsicum y nicotiana. Se ha encontrado una gran conservacion y un elevado nivel de expresion en las distintas especies consideradas. La variacion entre especies encontrada en el caso de stmads11 respecto de estos niveles de expresion, sugieren una diferencia funcional entre estos dos genes mads-box altamente
