La introduccion de los computadores en esta area ha posibilitado la resolucion de numerosos problemas que, debido a su dimension, complejidad, etc, eran inabordables hasta ahora. Ademas, el uso de computadores ha dado un impulso importante al desarrollo de nuevos metodos computacionales.  asi, la ecuacion algebraica de riccati (ear) y el modelo de espacio de estados constituyen actualmente un metodo eficiente y numericamente fiable para resolver un problema importante de la teoria de control: el problema lineal-cuadratico de control optimo.  esta tesis presenta una libreria de algoritmos secuenciales y paralelos para resolver ecuaciones matriciales de riccati mediante los cuatro metodos mencionados sobre computadores de altas prestaciones y multicomputadores.  en relacion con este problema se estudia el calculo de realizaciones minimales y la estabilizacion de sistemas dinamicos lineales.  finalmente, se presentan asimismo algoritmos
