Al contrario que brucella que es un patogeno intracelular, o. Anthropi se ha descrito como un patogeno oportunista, e incluso se sospecha que su habitat natural pueda ser la tierra.  dadas las diferencias que se observan en las caracteristicas biologicas entre ambos generos, nos planteamos la hipotesis de que la proximidad filogenetica entre ambos deberia de manifestarse en diferencias y semejanzas a nivel antigenico y estructural, que pudieran tener implicaciones en el diagnostico de la brucelosis y ayudar a comprender los mecanismos de patogenicidad de brucella. Para el estudio de esta hipotesis nos hemos propuesto dos objetivos complementarios. Por una parte, estudiar las relaciones antigenicas entre o. Anthropi y brucella spp, con significacion taxonomica como con significacion diagnostica. Y por otra, comparar algunas caracteristicas de la membrana externa (me) de o.  anthropi y brucella como son, la estructura del lipopolisacarido (lps) y la permeabilidad a agentes hidrofobicos y la resistencia a peptidos policationicos.  los resultados del analisis antigenico con significacion taxonomica demuestran que o. Anthropi y y brucella poseen una gran cantidad de determinantes antigenicos proteicos comunes, y que o. Anthropi 3301 (genotipo 2) presenta una mayor cantidad de epitopos comunes con brucella que o.  anthropi 3331 (genotipo 1). 1). Cuando se analizaron los epitopos comunes con significacion diagnostica, se demuestra que los antigenos proteicos de ambos generos mostraron una reactividad similar en los sueros de pacientes y animales infectados naturalmente por brucella, ademas de una intensa reaccion cruzada entre los lpss rugosos.  el analisis de la cadena del lps de o.
