En el trabajo se realiza una revision del estado del arte, tanto sobre estructuras de longitud infinita como finita.  en la tesis se ha formulado un modelo para la descripcion analitica del problema, basado en la aplicacion de series y transformadas de fourier, el cual describe las configuraciones rigidas, macizas, huecas lisas y huecas reforzadas, realizandose una verificacion experimental en estos dos ultimos casos.  se ha analizado, tambien, la adecuacion del metodo de los elementos de contorno a este tipo de problemas, con el fin de abrir caminos para el estudio futuro de geometrias mas
