Por su alto contenido en proteina de calidad. Se seleccionaron masalmente en la mbg-csic por precocidad en la floracion femenina. La seleccion fue efectiva, ambas fueron mas precoces y mostraron un descenso en el contenido de humedad en el grano tras seis ciclos de seleccion. Se estudio a que grupo heterotico (es decir reid o lancaster) pertenecen las dos poblaciones purdue a y purdue b y se llego a la conclusion de que las dos estan mas cerca del grupo de germoplasma lancaster. Las poblaciones al final de proceso de seleccion parecen presentar una cierta depresion consanguinea. Sin embargo, expresaron buena heterosis para el rendimiento y los restantes caracteres agronomicos de importancia con ambos probadores en todos los ciclos de seleccion. La evaluacion de familias s1 permitio estudiar la evolucion de la variabilidad de las dos poblaciones. Esta se ha mantenido, pese al proceso de seleccion, para el caracter floracion femenina por lo que puede esperarse algun progreso si se realizase otro ciclo de
