Cerevisiae juegan en el control del metabolismo del glucogeno. Para ello se han obtenido todas las proteinas fosfatas que hasta el momento se habian clonado en la levadura y se han clonado nuevas proteinas no descritas. Mediante tinciones de yodo se ha realizado una primera seleccion de que proteinas fosfatasas se hallaban involucradas en el control del metabolismo del polisacarido. Asi se llego a la conclusion de que las proteinas fosfatasas ppz1, ppz2, cna1, cna2 y pph3 no intervienen en el acumulo del glucogeno. El resto de fosfatasas conocidas intervienen en el control de dicho acumulo mediante varios mecanismos. Asi pues, el producto de los genes dis2s1, pph21, pph22 y sit4 actuan regulando el estado de activacion de la glucogeno sintasa y de la glucogeno fosforilasa. Por otra parte las proteinas pph21 y pph22 intervienen en el control transcripcional del gen de la glucogeno fosforilasa. Ppg interviene en el control transcripcional de la glucogeno sintasa.
