En condiciones de hipercolesterolemia, uno de los factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de la placa de ateroma, se incrementan los niveles plasm\u00e1ticos de lipoprote\u00ednas de baja densidad (ldl). Nuestros resultados muestran que las ldl modificadas minimamente (mmldl) presentan un incremento significativo de los niveles de oxidaci\u00f3n. Por el contrario, la modificaci\u00f3n de las ldl en presencia de los antioxidantes u74500a e hidroxitolueno butilado (uldl, bht-ldl) bloquea la modificaci\u00f3n oxidativa de las ldl.  concentraciones aterog\u00e9nicas de todas las ldl incrementan significativamente la adhesi\u00f3n de monocitos a las c\u00e9lulas endoteliales. Sin embargo las mmldl inducen un incremento de la adhesi\u00f3n superior. Al modificar las ldl en presencia de un antioxidante (uldl y bht-ldl) se reduce la adhesi\u00f3n de monocitos. El antioxidante u74500a es m\u00e1s eficaz que el bht en bloquear la modificaci\u00f3n de las ldl as\u00ed como en reducir la adhesi\u00f3n de monocitos.  las c\u00e9lulas endoteliales tratadas con concentraciones aterog\u00e9nicas de ldl muestran a las 24 y 48 horas de tratamiento una disminuci\u00f3n significativa de los niveles de prote\u00edna y de mrnacodificantes para \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico sintasa endotelial (enos), que requiere s\u00edntesis de rna y de prote\u00edna de novo.
