Los receptores eph se pueden dividir en dos subgrupos dependiendo de los ligandos que son capaces de unir.  con el fin de entender mejor las interacciones entre ligandos y receptores mapeamos la regi\u00f3n responsable de la uni\u00f3n del ligando en los receptores eph. Utilizamos una serie de mutantes de delecci\u00f3n y mutantes de sustituci\u00f3n y pudimos localizar el dominio de uni\u00f3n a ligando en un dominio globular situado en el extremo n-terminal del receptor ephb2 cuando interacciona con su ligando ephrina-b1. Con el ensayo de formaci\u00f3n de focos de c\u00e9lulas transformadas fuimos capaces de demostrar que el dominio globular de ephb2 es capaz de conferir actividad transformadora en el receptor huerfano ephb5.  finalmente ampliamos nuestros estudios de uni\u00f3n a otros miembros de ambos subgrupos de especificidad y se hizo aparente la utilizaci\u00f3n del mismo dominio por todos los
