En esta tesis hemos demostrado que adem\u00e1s la alb\u00famina plasm\u00e1tica, nativa, modifica los niveles intracelulares de calcio as\u00ed como el estado proliferativo de los astrocitos. La importancia de este hallazgo radica en que estas c\u00e9lulas no se encuentran en contacto con sangre, ni por tanto con alb\u00famina en condiciones normales; pero en patolog\u00edas como meningitis o esclerosis m\u00faltiple la barrera hematoencef\u00e1lica se vuelve permeable la alb\u00famina y los astrocitos responden aumentando su s\u00edntesis de adn y por tanto dividiendose r\u00e1pidamente. Este hecho podr\u00eda explicar la formaci\u00f3n de cicatrices de c\u00e9lulas gliales que aparecen alrededor del \u00e1rea neuronal da\u00f1ada, en dichas patolog\u00edas. Hemos demostrado adem\u00e1s que estos efectos son dependientes de un l\u00edpido polar unido a la alb\u00famina nativa.
