Esta prote\u00edna, denominada pig map se ha aislado mediante: cromatograf\u00eda de filtraci\u00f3n en gel, cromatograf\u00eda de afinidad en azul de cibacron, e intercambio i\u00f3nico en deae sephadex a-50. Las secuencias parciales de amino\u00e1cidos de la prote\u00edna completa y de algunos de sus fragmentos de proteolisis mostraron homolog\u00eda moderada con las cadenas h del inhibidor de tripsina inter-alfa (iti). Pig map es hom\u00f3loga de la prote\u00edna plasm\u00e1tica humana pk-120\/ihrp recientemente clonada. Se han detectado prote\u00ednas hom\u00f3logas a la pig map en los sueros de oveja, vaca y rata, especie en la cual tambi\u00e9n es una prote\u00edna de fase aguda.  en el cerdo, durante la fase aguda provocada por trementina o por trauma quirurgico la concentraci\u00f3n plasm\u00e1tica de pig map aumenta hasta 30 veces respecto del valor normal (0.5- 0.8 mg\/ml). Aumentos comparables se han observado en modelos experimentales de patolog\u00eda porcina: infecci\u00f3n con actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, por el virus de aujezsky y otras. Asimismo se ha observado que pig map aumenta mucho en cerdos de campo con patolog\u00edas agudas diversas: prrs y otras patolog\u00edas respiratorias, aujezsky, meningitis estreptoc\u00f3cica, hembras con abortos, etc.  en hepatocitos de cerdo aislados se ha demostrado que la pig map y la haptoglobina son prote\u00ednas de fase aguda inducibles por il-6 siendo el efecto mayor para la pig map.
