La usneoidona e es un meroterpeno aislado de cystoseira usneoides y que posee actividad antiviral y antitumoral. El fragmento derecho de usneoidona e contiene un anillo de beta-pirona y este anillo se puede obtener a partir de un tetrahidropirano debidamente funcionalizado.  el trabajo se ha centrado en el desarrollo de una metodolog\u00eda sint\u00e9tica para la obtenci\u00f3n de 2,2,6,6,-tetrahidropiranos funcionalizados en posici\u00f3n 3.  se ha realizado un profundo estudio sobre ciclaciones de linalool obteni\u00e9ndose beta-piranos quirales. Tambi\u00e9n se ha llevado a cabo la ciclaci\u00f3n de acetato de geranibo con \u00e1cido bencenoselen\u00e9nico proponi\u00e9ndose un mecanismo detallado de la ciclaci\u00f3n.
