El fragmento amplificado se somete a digesti\u00f3n con cinco enzimas de restricci\u00f3n y los patrones obtenidos se transforman en matrices de ceros y unos con las que se calculan distancias gen\u00e9ticas. Se ha probado que \u00e9stas distancias gen\u00e9ticas son proporcionales a las obtenidas directamente de las secuencias y que, por tanto las distancias gen\u00e9ticas derivadas de patrones de restricci\u00f3n pueden ser utilizadas para agrupar aislados de pvy en cepas gen\u00e9ticas. Utilizando este m\u00e9todo se han caracterizado aislados de pvy procedentes de distintos hu\u00e9spedes y se ha llegado a la conclusi\u00f3n que existen cinco cepas o razas gen\u00e9ticas dentro de este virus: pvyo, pvyn, pvynp, pvyc2 y pvyluel.
