En la actualidad el m\u00e9todo m\u00e1s ampliamente utilizado es la radiograf\u00eda, por medio de la cual se aprecia la forma y disposici\u00f3n de elementos vertebrales, la posible existencia de malformaciones \u00f3seas, medici\u00f3n de la angulaci\u00f3n de la curva, rotaci\u00f3n, etc.  en esta tesis doctoral desarrollamos un sistema computerizado -el sistema \u00abvertebra\u00bb- mediante el cual, extrayendo datos de estudios radiogr\u00e1ficos convencionales y tras pasar por un proceso de tratamiento de datos inform\u00e1ticos, se consiguen una representaci\u00f3n gr\u00e1fica tridimensional (3d) de la columna vertebral. El sistema vertebra nos proporciona par\u00e1metros num\u00e9ricos y gr\u00e1ficos.  el m\u00e9todo desarrollado nos permite la representaci\u00f3n gr\u00e1fica de la columna con diferentes grados de simplicidad\/realismo que va desde una representaci\u00f3n lineal hasta un modelo renderizado de alta calidad y gran realismo. Proporciona visiones desde cualquier punto del espacio de la columna vertebral estudiada, superando las dos visiones b\u00e1sicas (2d) a la que nos someten los estudios radiogr\u00e1ficos, es decir, la visi\u00f3n anteroposterior y lateral. El sistema vertebra tambi\u00e9n nos permite un acercamiento selectivo a una zona vertebral determinada, facilitando el estudio de vertebras concretas.
