A pesar de su amplia difusi\u00f3n durante la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada, esta t\u00e9cnica posee ciertas limitaciones que provocan resultados falsos en determinados casos, y que podr\u00edan ser resueltas mediante la modificaci\u00f3n de algunos aspectos t\u00e9cnicos e instrumentales.  en la presente tesis se aborda la aplicaci\u00f3n de diodos l\u00e1ser con emisiones en el infrarrojo cercano al desarrollo de sensores en ox\u00edmetros de pulso.  se exponen los aspectos fundamentales del sistema de transporte de ox\u00edgeno en el organismo humano, la composici\u00f3n de la sangre y la hemoglobina, y las caracter\u00edsticas de absorci\u00f3n \u00f3ptica de la hemoglobina. Se presentan los principales de la determinaci\u00f3n espectrofotom\u00e9trica de la saturaci\u00f3n de ox\u00edgeno, as\u00ed como los antecedentes y principios de la determinaci\u00f3n no invasiva de la saturaci\u00f3n de ox\u00edgeno mediante la aproximaci\u00f3n de la oximetr\u00eda de pulso. Se explican las caracter\u00edsticas de los sensores y los m\u00e9todos de procesamiento de las se\u00f1ales empleados hasta el presente, las limitaciones y fuentes de error de este tipo de oximetr\u00eda, y se plantean soluciones a algunas de las mismas.  se realiza un an\u00e1lisis de las caracter\u00edsticas de la zona espectral del infrarrojo cercano a fin de seleccionar las longitudes de onda m\u00e1s apropiadas, y se propone la utilizaci\u00f3n de emisores espec\u00edficos.
