Los factores de riesgo est\u00e1n bien conocidos y son principalmente el consumo de tabaco y\/o alcohol. No existen sin embargo, suficientes estudios en espa\u00f1a que analicen estos factores. Objetivos: conocer los factores de riesgo del c\u00e1ncer oral en la comunidad de Madrid, cuantificarlos y evaluar el potencial beneficio de su eliminaci\u00f3n.  material y m\u00e9todo: utilizamos 75 casos de carcinoma oral de c\u00e9lulas escamosas recogidos en el registro central de tumores de la comunidad de Madrid y 150 controles ajustados por edad, sexo y domicilio. Se analizaron los resultados mediante regresi\u00f3n log\u00edstica m\u00faltiple. Se realiz\u00f3 una encuesta para medir el consumo diario de cigarrillos y el consumo de alcohol (en gr. De alcohol\/dia) as\u00ed como el cepillado dental diario.  resultados: el consumo de 6 a 20 cigarrillos\/dia y m\u00e1s de 20. Presentan unos o. R. De 3,1(95%,i.C.-1,4-6,7) y 7,9(95% i.C.-3,3-19,3) respectivamente. El consumo de m\u00e1s de 50 gr. De alcohol\/d\u00eda con un o.R. De 5,3(95% i.C.-1,9-14,4) y el cepillado diario con un o.R. De 0,4(95% i.C.:0,2-0,8). Conclusiones: el factor de riesgo m\u00e1s importante es el consumo de cigarrillos seguido del consumo excesivo de alcohol diario.
