Una de estas poblaciones se localizaba en la zona intermedia baja de la corteza cerebral embrionaria. Estas son gabaergicas, porque tienen gaba y ademas son capaces de sintetizarlo, ya que tienen gad que es el enzima de sintesis del gaba. Estas celulas van a migrar tangencialmente desde la neocorteza al hipocampo, cruzando por tanto, limites entre areas. El mecanismo de migracion es diferente al de la migracion radial que es el que normalmente opera en corteza.  otra de estas poblaciones precoces son las celulas de subplaca. Estas son el origen de la capa vib en el adulto. Una parte de esta poblacion migra a partir de e20 hacia placa cortical y frente a lo que otros autores han especulado no existe un fenomeno de desaparicion celular, sino que por el contrario esta es
