En la diabetes tipo 2, la c\u00e9lula b manifiesta cierta insensibilidad al est\u00edmulo de la glucosa, que podr\u00eda deberse a alteraciones en el transporte y fosforilaci\u00f3n del az\u00facar, o en lugares espec\u00edficos de su metabolismo.  con el fin de encontrar agentes que, por su mecanismo de acci\u00f3n, pudieran soslayar estas deficiencias, nos planteamos el estudiar en el islote pancre\u00e1tico, el efecto de: un an\u00e1logo de la adenosina, \u00e9steres de \u00e1cidos dicarbox\u00edlicos y de d-glucosa, d-fructosa, derivados de la meglitinida, y una sulfonilurea, sobre la secreci\u00f3n de insulina y actividad biosint\u00e9tica de p\u00e9ptidos hormonales y no-hormonales, as\u00ed como sobre la generaci\u00f3n de ampc.  adem\u00e1s, hemos investigado el efecto in vitro del glp-1 sobre la actividad biosint\u00e9tica de la c\u00e9lula b. Todo lo documentado en este trabajo proporciona una serie de nuevos secretagogos de insulina, a considerar como posibles instrumentos en la terapia de la diabetes mellitus no-insulino dependiente. Algunos de ellos, particularmente los \u00e9steres de metabolitos carbox\u00edlicos del ciclo de krebs, y sus precursores, y el \u00e9ster pentaacetato de la d-glucosa, ofrecen la ventaja, sobre sustancias farmacol\u00f3gicas tales como las sulfonilureas hipoglucemiantes o los an\u00e1logos de la meglitinida, de que estimulan tanto la bios\u00edntesis como la liberaci\u00f3n de insulina.
