La inhibicion de la actividad como consecuencia de la oxidacion con gssg produce la disociacion a un monomero inactivo, tanto del dimero como del tetramero, como consecuencia de la formacion de un puente disulfuro intrasubunidad.  por otra parte, las dos isoformas de sam-st presentes en higado de rata son fosforiladas \u00abin vitro\u00bb por la proteina quinasa c (pkc), en la thr 342, lo que produce una activacion de 1.4 veces del dimero, acompa\u00f1ada de una disociacion a monomero activo del mismo, mientras que no afecta a la actividad ni al estado oligomerico de la forma de alto peso molecular. Por otra parte, la fosforilacion por pkc no modifica los parametros cineticos de ninguna de las isoformas para ninguno de sus dos sustratos.
