El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido seleccionar la metodolog\u00eda que permita evaluar la tolerancia a la salinidad del tomate mediante cultivo in vitro, siendo para ello necesario que el material seleccionado a nivel celular exprese realmente la tolerancia a nivel de planta. En primer lugar, se estudi\u00f3 la respuesta a la salinidad a largo plazo con el objetivo de conocer los cambios que se producen en el desarrollo de los callos al aumentar el n\u00famero de subcultivos. Se comprob\u00f3 que la tolerancia a la salinidad variaba a lo largo de los subcultivos y, adem\u00e1s, estos cambios depend\u00edan de la tolerancia inicial del genotipo. Por esta raz\u00f3n, en los siguientes estudios se utiliz\u00f3 el primer subcultivo para evaluar la tolerancia a la salinidad de diferentes genotipos de tomate y de familias transg\u00e9nicas a las que se les hab\u00eda insertado el gen hal1 aislado de levadura.  los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto que en tomate existe una relaci\u00f3n entre la respuesta a nivel celular y a nivel de planta al utilizar el primer subcultivo de callos, ya que el diferente grado de tolerancia a la sal de genotipos que no difieren de manera importante en su tolerancia a nivel de planta, queda tambi\u00e9n de manifiesto a nivel celular.
