La melatonina es una hormona con conocidas capacidades antioxidantes, antiproliferativas y antiapopt\u00f3ticas.  tambi\u00e9n se sabe que induce un aumento tanto de la actividad como del rna de los enzimas antioxidantes. Esto nos llev\u00f3 a plantearnos si esta hormona ser\u00eda capaz de inhibir la citotoxicidad causada por ciertas neurotoxinas como la 6-ohda y el mpp+. Demostramos que la melatonina es capaz de rescatar parcialmente las c\u00e9lulas pc12 de la muerte celular programada inducida por la 6-ohda. Este efecto inhibidor de la melatonina est\u00e1 mediado por su acci\u00f3n sobre los niveles de rna de los enzimas antioxidantes. Paralelamente, y dada la capacidad antiproliferativa de la melatonina, comprobamos que esta hormona tambi\u00e9n es capaz de inhibir la proliferaci\u00f3n celular de las pc12. Estos dos efectos, antiproliferativo y antioxidante, podr\u00edan estar relacionados entre s\u00ed. La melatonina s\u00f3lo fue capaz de inhibir la citotoxicidad causada por el h2o2 en c\u00e9lulas pc12 neuronales, potenciando el efecto antioxidante del ngf en estas c\u00e9lulas. Por \u00faltimo comprobamos que la melatonina fue capaz de inhibir la ca\u00edda de viabilidad inducida por el mpp+ en este mismo modelo celular. Estas evidencias, adem\u00e1s de ratificar el efecto antioxidante y antiproliferativo de la melatonina en c\u00e9lulas neuronales, apunta a la melatonina como una sustancia con posibilidades
