La bph-rp humana (biphenyl hydrolase-related protein) es una nueva ser\u00edn-hidrolasa identificada a partir de un carcinoma de mama, que muestra un alto grado de similitud con hidrolasas bacterianas implicadas en la degradaci\u00f3n de compuestos arom\u00e1ticos. Los ensayos de actividad llevados a cabo han demostrado que la bph-rp tiene actividad ser\u00edn-hidrolasa y es inhibida espec\u00edficamente por inhibidores de ser\u00edn-hidrolasas. Se ha llevado a cabo el estudio de la distribuci\u00f3n subcelular de la bph-rp y de los mecanismos implicados en su localizaci\u00f3n peroxisomal. As\u00ed mismo, se ha identificado y caracterizado el gen de la bph-rp (bphl), que est\u00e1 constituido por ocho exones y siete intrones, comprende alrededor de 30 kb de secuencia gen\u00f3mica, y se localiza en el cromosoma 6p25. Bas\u00e1ndonos en estos resultados, se ha propuesto que la bph-rp puede desempe\u00f1ar una funci\u00f3n en los procesos de destoxificaci\u00f3n de compuestos nocivos para el organismo.  en este trabaj\u00f3 se examin\u00f3 la posibilidad de identificar nuevos miembros de la familia de metaloproteasas de matriz extracelular (mmp) producidos por carcinomas mamarios humanos. El an\u00e1lisis de biopsias de carcinomas de mama permiti\u00f3 identificar una nueva mmp, que presentaba las caracter\u00edsticas extructurales de las mmps asociadas a membrana, por lo que se denomin\u00f3 mt4-mmp. El gen de la mt4-mmp (mmp-17) se expresa preferentemente en cerebro, lecucocitos y \u00f3rganos reproductores, as\u00ed como en todos los carcinomas y l\u00edneas celulares de c\u00e1ncer de mama estudiados. Un estudio preliminar del gen mmp-17 ha permitido establecer su localizaci\u00f3n cromos\u00f3mica en 12q24.3.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis doctoral
