A trav\u00e9s de los grabados en madera difundidos por la imprenta en las revistas pintorescas e ilustradas y la tecnolog\u00eda fotogr\u00e1fica que cre\u00f3 su propio circuito de difusi\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s del album familiar y de formatos como la \u00abcarte de visite\u00bb las im\u00e1genes que circularon contribuyeron a la conformaci\u00f3n de un imaginario social en el que se presentaban las caracter\u00edsticas que estaba creando la cultura liberal en su proceso de disoluci\u00f3n de la sociedad tradicional. La tesis estudia la implantaci\u00f3n, usos y el desarrollo de la industria del grabado en madera en espa\u00f1a a partir del 1836 y la aparici\u00f3n desde 1839 de la fotograf\u00eda que ser\u00e1 percibida como un sustituto de la realidad. Las influencias de ambas t\u00e9cnicas y sus usos sociales y culturales permiten analizar el valor que las im\u00e1genes en tanto que textos visuales presentan como fuente de la historia
