Sin abandonar las coordenadas barrocas, se avanza a una nueva modalidad de retablo, caracterizada por la utilizaci\u00f3n de la pilastra estipite y un nuevo tipo de talla ornamental, que entremezcla elementos de naturaleza vegetal con otros de tipo geom\u00e9trico. Se sustituye as\u00ed al retablo salom\u00f3nico, que hab\u00eda alcanzado gran desarrollo en la segunda mitad del xvii.  los principales art\u00edfices impulsores de la nueva tipolog\u00eda fueron el castellano jer\u00f3nimo balb\u00e1s que llega a sevilla en 1705 y pedro duque cornejo, artista polifac\u00e9tico que desarrolla amplia actividad tanto en sevilla como en granada o c\u00f3rdoba.
