La primera es una biograf\u00eda de nogales basada en los pocos documentos fidedignos (partidas de bautismo o defunci\u00f3n, expediente universitario&#8230;) Que existen de \u00e9l, y, sobre todo, en los propios escritos del autor que, en ocasiones, en sus art\u00edculos, desgrana recuerdos de su vida. En esta parte del trabajo se aclaran errores que los pocos autores que se han ocupado hasta ahora del escritor han venido cometiendo: angel andrada, fernando cerme\u00f1o, jos\u00e9 andr\u00e9s v\u00e1zquez y amalia garc\u00eda valdecasas.  la segunda parte estudia la obra literaria de nogales. Se divide, a efectos de este estudio en obra publicada en libros y obra period\u00edstica, no porque una sea superior a la otra o distinta, sino a los \u00fanicos efectos de catalogaci\u00f3n. De hecho, gran parte de la obra publicada en libros fue tambi\u00e9n, antes o despu\u00e9s, escrito period\u00edstico. La obra publicada en libros se analiza pormenorizadamente, utilizando distintos instrumentos y modos de acercamiento al fondo o la forma; una atenci\u00f3n especial, en esta parte, se presta a las dos novelas -mariquita le\u00f3n y el \u00faltimo patriota- que jos\u00e9 nogales public\u00f3 en 1901 en el corto espacio de tres meses. Estas dos novelas tienen una fuerte carga de cr\u00edtica social y pol\u00edtica desde los presupuestos regeneracionistas que joaqu\u00edn costa proclamaba y que nogales acept\u00f3 con devoci\u00f3n. La obra period\u00edstica se cataloga exhaustivamente, recogi\u00e9ndola de los distintos medios period\u00edsticos de la \u00e9poca, y ordenada cronol\u00f3gicamente y clasificada seg\u00fan una tipolog\u00eda establecida para facilitar este primer acercamiento necesario a una obra tan vasta y dispersa.  la tercera parte del trabajo es una antolog\u00eda de estos art\u00edculos
