La catarata, el desprendimiento de retina regmat\u00f3geno y la degeneraci\u00f3n macular asociada a la edad (dmae) son enfermedades relacionadas con el envejecimiento y con un fuerte impacto sociosanitario. Hemos valorado el sistema antioxidante y los productos de la peroxidaci\u00f3n lip\u00eddica (mda) en distintas muestras biol\u00f3gicas humanas:  cristalinos con catarata y sanos, l\u00edquido subretiniano (lsr) de pacientes con desprendimiento de retina, homogenados de retina humana en un modelo de oxidaci\u00f3n in vitro con adp-fe++, y en suero de pacientes con dmae:  existe un deterioro del sistema antioxidante glutati\u00f3n en el cristalino con catarata; hemos encontrado mda en los cristalinos con catarata y en el lsr de los pacientes con desprendimiento de retina (con una correlaci\u00f3n r=0,91, p 0,001 con el n\u00famero de dioptr\u00edas de miop\u00eda). El antioxidante m\u00e1s eficaz para inhibir la peroxidaci\u00f3n lip\u00eddica en el homogenado de retina humana es la vitamina e.
