No obstante, el proceso de biosintesis del peptidoglicano no esta afectado por el hecho de crecer a las celulas en presencia de lantionina.  cuando crecemos las celulas en presencia de lantionina se produce un fenomeno litico relacionado con la fase de crecimiento, la cantidad de lantionina presente en el medio de cultivo y la densidad celular alcanzada por el cultivo.  a pesar de que la composicion del saculo bacteriano modificado con lantionina esta alterada, la evolucion de los parametros estructurales del peptidoglicano es paralela en todo momento a la del peptidoglicano
