Se determina la presencia, a grandes rasgos, de tres tipos de defectos:  centros reducidos unidos a vacantes aisladas, centros reducidos unidos a vacantes asociadas y centros oxidados insaturados en su coordinacion. Los centros de vacantes asociadas son mas facilmente oxidables y presentan capacidad de formacion de hiponitritos tras adsorcion de no. Los centros oxidados generan especies nitrito tras adsorcion de no. La presencia de cloro genera centros reducidos unidos a vacantes aisladas que son mas estables frente a la oxidacion que en ausencia de cloro. La presencia de rodio favorece la disociacion del n2o y produce una mayor cantidad de centros oxidados sobre el oxido de cerio, lo que sugiere que este actua como promotor en la reduccion del
