La caracterizaci\u00f3n del aceite ha consistido en un estudio de su morfolog\u00eda, la determinaci\u00f3n de metales pesados, la determinaci\u00f3n de hidrocarburos poliarom\u00e1ticos, determinaci\u00f3n de cloro y determinaci\u00f3n de policlorobifenilos.  con dichos aceites se han realizado ensayos de combusti\u00f3n, variando las condiciones, y se han caracterizado las emisiones. De las part\u00edculas emitidas en los diferentes ensayos se ha hecho un estudio de la morfol\u00f3gia, la determinaci\u00f3n de metales y su relaci\u00f3n con la fracci\u00f3n gaseosa. De las estas part\u00edculas se ha hecho un estudio de distribuci\u00f3n de tama\u00f1os y determinaci\u00f3n de metales pesados seg\u00fan el tama\u00f1o de la part\u00edcula. En las mismas se han analizado los hidrocarburos poliarom\u00e1ticos.  se han optimizado todos los procedimientos anal\u00edticos necesarios para cada an\u00e1lisis, con especial \u00e9nfasis en el tratamiento previo de la muestra.
