Las alteraciones en la apoptosis se asocian con diversas enfermedades (procesos autoinmunes, c\u00e1ncer, enfermedades degenerativas&#8230;), De ah\u00ed que haya asumido una gran importancia el conocimiento de los mecanismos bioqu\u00edmicos que conducen a la pcd.  la apoptosis se caracteriza por una serie de cambios morfol\u00f3gicos que incluyen el encogimiento de la c\u00e9lula, la condensaci\u00f3n de la cromatina y la posterior fragmentaci\u00f3n del dna y del n\u00facleo. Diferentes est\u00edmulos pueden activarla: se\u00f1ales mortales (tnf, fas ligando), falta de se\u00f1ales de supervivencia y da\u00f1o al dna.  en este trabajo hemos estudiado el mecanismo de pcd inducida por prote\u00ednas de relevancia en el sistema inmune, como el tnf, el ligando de fas y las prote\u00ednas perforina, granzimas y granulisina. Se ha analizado la implicaci\u00f3n de los radicales libres oxigenados, las caspasas y la ceramida en la apoptosis inducida v\u00eda tnf y fas. Tambi\u00e9n se ha estudiado el mecanismo de muerte ejercido por drogas citot\u00f3xicas como la doxorrubicina y por una nueva prote\u00edna citot\u00f3xica, la granulisina.  adem\u00e1s, se ha iniciado el an\u00e1lisis del mecanismo de protecci\u00f3n de la apoptosis v\u00eda fas efectuado por la prote\u00edna quinasa c.  la implicaci\u00f3n de radicales libres se ha evaluado utilizando inhibidores de la cadena de transporte electr\u00f3nico mitocondrial y c\u00e9lulas carentes de dna mitocondrial (c\u00e9lulas p). La utilizaci\u00f3n de diversos inhibidores pept\u00eddicos espec\u00edficos de proteasas de la familia ice ha permitido analizar su participaci\u00f3n en diversos tipos de pcd. El papel de la ceramida se ha estimado mediante la incubaci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas con diversos tipos de ceramidas y tambie\u00e9n mediante el an\u00e1lisis de los l\u00edpidos celulares.
