La tesis est\u00e1 estructurada en dos partes complementarias: un estudio preliminar y la presentaci\u00f3n del texto espa\u00f1ol de 1590. Se abordan distintos aspectos en aras de una mejor comprensi\u00f3n del \u00e9xito de este tipo de literatura en espa\u00f1a y la poca fortuna de la obra estudiada: cuestiones gen\u00e9ricas desde la antiguedad hasta el renacimiento; las alusiones en los manuales de cortesan\u00eda; el contexto narrativo en italia y en espa\u00f1a; la difusi\u00f3n comercial de las novelle en espa\u00f1a; la traducci\u00f3n desde la vertiente pr\u00e1ctica y desde la parca reflexi\u00f3n te\u00f3rica espa\u00f1ola; la inquisici\u00f3n para entender la censura autoimpuesta ante la res lasciva, asuntos eclesi\u00e1sticos y otros temas como el saco de roma. La obra italiana y la traducci\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola se presentan como un nuevo decamer\u00f3n cat\u00f3lico o contrarreformista, para un p\u00fablico espa\u00f1ol \u00e1vido de leer novelas que pronto ser\u00edan creadas por los propios autores espa\u00f1oles.
