Rosario <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>En esta tesis se ha estudiado por primera vez en profundidad la formaldeh\u00eddo deshidrogenasa dependiente de glutati\u00f3n (faldh) de saccharomyces cerevisiae. La purificaci\u00f3n y caracterizaci\u00f3n de la faldh de esta levadura indica que se trata de un d\u00edmero formado por dos subunidades id\u00e9nticas de aproximadamente 45 kda. Este enzima es poco activo frente a etanol y es especialmente activo frente a s-hidroximetilglutati\u00f3n (compuesto derivado de la reacci\u00f3n espontanea entre formaldeh\u00eddo y glutati\u00f3n). Se ha clonado el gen que codifica la faldh de esta levadura y se ha secuenciado parcialmente la prote\u00edna purificada estableciendo de esta manera la estructura primaria de la prote\u00edna. La deleci\u00f3n del gen que codifica la faldh en levadura indica que la faldh no es imprescindible para la vida celular. La sobreexpresi\u00f3n del gen que codifica la faldh confiere a la levadura resistencia a formaldeh\u00eddo indicando que el papel principal de este enzima es proteger la c\u00e9lula de los efectos t\u00f3xicos del formaldeh\u00eddo.
