En la base de dicho pensamiento se halla una manera de concebir al ser humano y de entender la experiencia de sus relaciones con el mundo natural y social, en la que la imaginaci\u00f3n posee un papel principal. La tesis se halla dividida en cinco cap\u00edtulos.  en el primero se lleva a cabo una exposici\u00f3n de los principales rasgos de la filosof\u00eda de shaftesbury en relaci\u00f3n al contexto cultural del siglo xviii. El segundo se ocupa del estudio del significado otorgado por shaftesbury al concepto de entusiasmo. En el tercer cap\u00edtulo se lleva a cabo un an\u00e1lisis de la imagen de la naturaleza descrita en su obra. El cap\u00edtulo cuarto se ocupa del tema de la contemplaci\u00f3n est\u00e9tica; en \u00e9l se estudian las diversas propiedades que la acci\u00f3n del contemplador presenta en los escritos de shaftesbury. Y en el quinto cap\u00edtulo se lleva a cabo una presentaci\u00f3n de los principales puntos en los que se basa la interpretaci\u00f3n de shaftesbury acerca de la tarea imitativa del
