Se encuentra localizado en la region 102d del cromosoma vi y comprende una region de 2,7 kb. Esta estructuralmente bien conservada y posee una presencia de 31 aminoacidos. El inicio de transcripcion del gen es heterogeneo y no posee caja tata.  el estudio del patron de expresion del gen b-atpasa durante el desarrollo embrionario de drosophila, ha revelado que el mensajero se encuentra almacenado en oocitos y su cantidad disminuye fuertemente en los primeros estadios de embriogenesis. A partir de las 10.00 horas de desarrollo, coincidiendo con el reinicio de la replicacion mitocondrial, su expresion vuelve a aumentar de una forma coordinada con la expresion de otras dos subunidades del comp.H+-atpasa(6y8), codificadas en el genoma mitocondrial.
