En c\u00e9lulas molt-4 y hl-60 la deficiencia de colesterol ocasiona la parada del ciclo celular en la fase g2, efecto que se acompa\u00f1a de la p\u00e9rdida de actividad de la quinasa p34cdc2. El suministro de colesterol ldl o colesterol libre, evita dichos efectos y permite superar la fase g2, restableci\u00e9ndose el ciclo celular. Por tanto el colesterol no solo tiene un papel estructural como componente de las membranas, si no que tiene tambi\u00e9n un papel regulador del ciclo celular. La inhibici\u00f3n de la hmg-coa reductasa por la lovastatina conduce a la parada del ciclo celular en las fases g1 y g2\/m. El ac\u00famulo de c\u00e9lulas en g2\/m se debe propiamente a la deficiencia de colesterol mientras que la parada en g1 se atribuye a la carencia de mevalonato y\/o alg\u00fan derivado no estero\u00eddico del mismo. Las concentraciones elevadas de ldl son menos eficaces que las intermedias para revertir el efecto de la lovastatina, efecto que se atribuye a la retrorregulaci\u00f3n de la hmg-coa reductasa por el colesterol y que se previene en parte por antioxidantes. De forma an\u00e1loga, los oxiesteroles 25-hidroxicolesterol y 7-cetocolesterol inhiben fuertemente la proliferaci\u00f3n celular a trav\u00e9s de la inhibici\u00f3n de la s\u00edntesis de mevalonato y de colesterol.  a dosis bajas, su efecto tambi\u00e9n es contrarrestado por antioxidantes como ocurr\u00eda con concentraciones elevadas de colesterol ldl.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos
