Ambas especies son propias del bosque templado centroeuropeo y la citada localidad es uno de los puntos m\u00e1s meridionales de su \u00e1rea de distribuci\u00f3n. Durante el per\u00edodo de estudio se registr\u00f3 una intensa sequ\u00eda y heladas tard\u00edas. Estas perturbaciones dieron lugar a diferentes pautas de comportamiento fisiol\u00f3gico seg\u00fan la especie considerada.  variaci\u00f3n que se manifiesta al analizar las tasas de intercambio gaseoso en diferentes niveles del dosel, durante el d\u00eda y a lo largo del per\u00edodo vegetativo. Bajo las condiciones ambientales de la localidad estudiada el roble albar muestra una mayor capacidad fotosint\u00e9tica. La falta de agua y una alta demanda evaporativa son los factores que determinan el cierre estom\u00e1tico en ambas especies. Esta respuesta es m\u00e1s acusada en las hayas, que muestran una mayor sensibilidad al estr\u00e9s h\u00eddrico, puesta de manifiesto por una menor capacidad de recuperaci\u00f3n del potencial h\u00eddrico durante la noche, en particular cuando la disponibilidad h\u00eddrica es menor al final del verano.  la brotaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s temprana de las hayas es tambi\u00e9n causa de mayores
