El criterio se ha f\u00f3rmulado en t\u00e9rminos generales, para que pueda ser aplicado a los materiales que habitualmente se emplean en ingenieria civil, y se ha comprobado en un material fr\u00e1gil. El fundamento del criterio se encuentra en la teor\u00eda de la fisura cohesiva.  gracias a esta teor\u00eda se puede predecir el comportamiento en rotura de s\u00f3lidos con defectos geom\u00e9tricos tipo entallas, aspecto que hasta ahora no hab\u00eda sido resuelto.  la predicci\u00f3n se realiza empleando t\u00e9cnicas num\u00e9ricas, como el m\u00e9todo de los elementos finitos, que se han adaptado al material fr\u00e1gil objeto de estudio.  para validar el criterio, se ha realizado un amplio programa experimental que incluye ensayos de caracterizaci\u00f3n del material y ensayos de rotura en geometr\u00edas entalladas.  estas \u00faltimas con diferentes formas y tama\u00f1os de defectos y sometidos a varios tipos de solicitaci\u00f3n. La investigaci\u00f3n concluye mostrando la concordancia entre los resultados experimentales y las predicciones te\u00f3ricas del modelo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis
