Se han estudiado tanto heteroestructuras metal-semiconductor, diodos schottky, como heteroestructuras semiconductor-semiconductor, transistores bipolares basados en heteroestructuras (hbts), utilizadas en aplicaciones de radiofrecuencia. El punto de partida fue la teor\u00eda cl\u00e1sica de arrastre y difusi\u00f3n, complementada con modelos adecuados para el transporte en las interfases. La comprensi\u00f3n de las limitaciones de esta aproximaci\u00f3n ha servido para ampliar este modelo, de modo que incluya aspectos tan importantes como generaci\u00f3n de calor o transporte no estacionario.  tambi\u00e9n se ha avanzado por la v\u00eda de adaptarse a la geometr\u00eda de los dispositivos a trav\u00e9s de un simulador bidimensional para hbts. Por \u00faltimo, se ha integrado un simulador unidimensional para diodos schottky en un simulador circuital basado en la t\u00e9cnica de balance arm\u00f3nico. Se pretende con ello desarrollar una herramienta capaz de evitar el uso de circuitos equivalentes y que permita el dise\u00f1o conjunto del dispositivo y del entorno
