Este gen, se denomina vat y en esta tesis ha sido identificada su presencia en dos l\u00edneas de mel\u00f3n de siete evaluadas mediante ensayos de antixenosis, de antibiosis y de transmisi\u00f3n del virus del mosaico del pepino (cmv).  por otra parte se han realizado dos ensayos de campo en Madrid y Valencia para evaluar la incidencia de virus en genotipos de mel\u00f3n con y sin el gen vat.  tambi\u00e9n se han investigado los mecanismos de resistencia del gen vat y su modo de acci\u00f3n. Se ha averiguado que la resistencia causa graves alteraciones del comportamiento alimenticio de a. Gossypii y adem\u00e1s impide que este vector libere part\u00edculas de virus en las plantas resistentes que prueba.  finalmente se han averiguado los mecanismos de la inoculaci\u00f3n- adquisici\u00f3n no persistentes de virus por pulgones y se ha propuesto una nueva hip\u00f3tesis de \u00abingesti\u00f3n-salivaci\u00f3n\u00bb para explicar la transmisi\u00f3n no
