La unidad de transcripcion hl4 codifica una proteina homologa a la proteina erd1 de levaduras, implicada en transporte y secrecion de proteinas en el aparato de golgi. Ambas unidades de tanscripcion se expresan, como se ha visto por experimentos de hibridacion in situ a mrna, en los ovarios, en el sistema nervioso, en el tubo digestivo, y en los discos imaginal es larvarios. La unidad de transcripcion hl3 se expresa tambien en los testiculos.  el estudio de la biolog\u00eda de los mutantes localizados en la region en la que se situan estas dos unidades de transcripcion indica que estas mutaciones afectan a procesos implicados en oogenesis y en la fisiolog\u00eda del sistema nervioso. La carcaterizacion molecular de dichas mutaciones no ha puesto de manifiesto la causa molecular de las mismas ni su relacion con las unidades de transcripcion hl3 y
