Lyotard en un estudio pormenorizado de sus textos. Frente a la razon dominante, omniexplicativa y normalizadora, se analizan expresamente aquellos aspectos que cuestionan el modelo totalizador.  se parte de sus escritos deudores de la posicion y militancia marxista clasica y de los trabajos fenomenologicos para proseguir en su propuesta sobre el deseo y su configuracion de lo que cabe entender por nuevo paganismo (ante el monopolio monoteista). Lo figural aparece frente a lo discursivo que pone en cuestion los relatos de legitimacion de lo verdadero y lo justo.  la tesis estudia el giro linguistico en el que el lugar del conflicto (differend) propicia el analisis de sus figuras de lo irreductible y lo inconmensurable. Se abren paso a nuevas categorias para pensar lo politico. Para ello lyotard recurre a kant y a su critica del juicio, a fin de privilegiar el genero deliberator y huir de las prescripciones. Tal lugar sera el de la complejidad, la multiplicidad y una racionalidad plural que sea capaz de aprehender las singularidades.
