A partir de 728 p\u00e9ptidos sintetizados (de entre 7 y 16 amino\u00e1cidos) y paneles de sueros de indiv\u00edduos sanos e infectados con vhc, se seleccionaron 29 p\u00e9ptidos. Estos p\u00e9ptidos, en conjucci\u00f3n con algunos de sus homopol\u00edmeros permitieron serotipar el 64% de los vhc de tipo 1, 2 y 3 y diferenciar entre s\u00ed el 45% de los subtipos 1a y 1b. La especificidad del ensayo fue del 96%. Se hicieron \u00e1rboles filogen\u00e9ticos y se observ\u00f3 que los sueros se distribu\u00edan en dos grupos, que se denominaron serotipos alfa y beta.  se comprob\u00f3 que 21 de los 728 p\u00e9ptidos eran responsables de la asignaci\u00f3n de los sueros a los serotipos alfa y beta. El 74,4% de los sueros del serotipo alfa pertenecieron a pacientes respondedores a la terapia con interfer\u00f3n-alfa (ifn-alfa) mientras que el 74,1% de los sueros del serotipo beta pertenecieron a pacientes no respondedores. Se estudi\u00f3 la relaci\u00f3n entre los serotipos alfa y beta y algunas variables de los pacientes tales como: edad, sexo, v\u00eda de transmisi\u00f3n de la enfermedad, genotipo viral y respuesta al tratamiento con interfer\u00f3n-alfa.
