Como resultado de esta investigacion se propone el metodo de las caracteristicas modificadas para la simulacion de frentes de onda en canales incluido el caso particular del resalto hidraulico. Para verificar el buen funcionamiento del metodo se realizo una campa\u00f1a de ensayos en el canal de laboratorio de la e.T.S. De ingenieros de caminos, c. Y p. De la u.P.C., Una campa\u00f1a de ensayos en un canal real y una comparacion con metodos tradicionales en diferencias finitas explicitas, lax y la familia de metodos lax-wendroff. Un total de 49 ensayos completamente ilustrados y desarrollados forman una base de datos importante que pueden ser utilizados por otros investigadores interesados en el tema de frentes de onda.  adicionalmente la tesis dio lugar a proponer el plano de estado (formado por la velocidad y la celeridad) como un instrumento para el analisis de datos experimentales o de simulacion de ondas en canales. Se incluye un estudio de la evaluacion de las fuerzas de friccion en regimen permanente mediante una metodolog\u00eda basada en la teoria de la optimizacion para la estimacion de parametros relevantes
