Este tipo de problemas ha despertado gran inter\u00e9s en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os con la aparici\u00f3n de redes de alta velocidad, como puede ser el caso de atm, con aplicaci\u00f3n en la rdsi de banda ancha.  las redes atm son un ejemplo de redes con caminos virtuales semipermanentes, por lo que se justifica el desarrollo de algoritmos a priori que obtienen la distribuci\u00f3n \u00f3ptima de dichos caminos y su capacidad.  recientemente, se ha comenzado a introducir supervivencia ante fallos en los modelos de caminos virtuales. Debido al tama\u00f1o y complejidad de los problemas que resultan, los algoritmos tradicionales no pueden garantizar la obtenci\u00f3n de una soluci\u00f3n sin un alto coste.
