El la tesis se presentan los estudios de modelizaci\u00f3n y simulaci\u00f3n de cuatro estaciones depuradoras reales. Las simulaciones se efectuaron para la mejora de la fiabilidad de las plantas en condiciones de eliminaci\u00f3n de nitr\u00f3geno (nitrificaci\u00f3n &#8211; desnitrificaci\u00f3n) i concretamente en las situaciones de: 1) ampliaci\u00f3n de una planta depuradora industrial, 2) redise\u00f1o completo de una depuradora urbana, 3) estudio de las condiciones de operaci\u00f3n i 4) an\u00e1lisis de las capacidades de tratamiento. A si mismo, se presenta la t\u00e9cnica de filtrar se\u00f1ales con wavelets para la eliminaci\u00f3n de los ruidos de fondo de los datos obtenidos en l\u00ednea en una estaci\u00f3n depuradora,
