El trit\u00f3rdeo est\u00e1 siguiendo un programa de mejora en el que es muy importante aumentar su base gen\u00e9tica a partir de una colecci\u00f3n de numerosas entradas de hordeum chilense.  hay caracteres de inter\u00e9s agron\u00f3mico que no son f\u00e1ciles de encontrar en especies silvestres por lo que hemos recurrido a la cebada cultivada. hemos obtenido l\u00edneas dis\u00f3micas de trit\u00f3rdeo para los cromosomas 2,4,5 y 7 de cebada a partir del cruzamiento de las diferentes l\u00edneas de adici\u00f3n de cebada en trigo por trit\u00f3rdeo.  se han obtenido adem\u00e1s un gran n\u00famero de plantas con introgresiones cromos\u00f3micas de cebada en trit\u00f3rdeo, traslocaciones en su mayor\u00eda centrom\u00e9ricas a pesar de que no hemos observado apareamiento interespec\u00edfico en meiosis. en un caso, una planta ten\u00eda un par de cromosomas hom\u00f3logos de h.
