Se ha observado que la aplicaci\u00f3n ex\u00f3gena de giberelinas en plantas de patata tiene un efecto inhibidor de la tuberizaci\u00f3n. Se han clonado los genes que codifican para el enzima ga20-oxidasa en diversas especies vegetales.  en base a las secuencias aminoac\u00eddicas m\u00e1s conservadas, se han dise\u00f1ado oligonucle\u00f3tidos, que us\u00e1ndolos como cebadores en reacciones de pcr sobre dna gen\u00f3mico de patata, han permitido aislar los clones de cdna cuyos gnes codifican para 3 ga20-oxidasa en patata. El patr\u00f3n de expresi\u00f3n de tejido para cada uno de los clones es diferencial, observ\u00e1ndose que el clon stga20ox 1 se expresa de forma importante en \u00e1pices y hojas; el clon stga20ox 2 lo hace en estol\u00f3n y tub\u00e9rculo, mientras que el clon stga20ox 3 se expresa en tallo, raiz, estol\u00f3n, tub\u00e9rculo y fruto. Para conocer la posible funci\u00f3n de cada uno de estos genes se han obtenido plantas transg\u00e9nicas portadoras de construcciones de sobre-expresi\u00f3n y antisentido.
