Ello hizo perder los privilegios del antiguo teatro de la santa cruz, denominado a partir de entonces como teatre principal, para hacer frente a la rivalidad sostenida con otros teatros, como el liceu o el nou.  la tesis demuestra, adem\u00e1s, que la evoluci\u00f3n del gusto del p\u00fablico bardelon\u00e9s empieza a derivar hacia las nuevas olas impuestas por el romanticismo italiano (verdi) y franc\u00e9s. Asimismo se compara el gusto del p\u00fablico con la prensa, particularmente la prensa, no siempre de acuerdo con la modernidad est\u00e9tica.  el trabajo reconstruye el d\u00eda a d\u00eda de vida oper\u00edstica en la barcelona de la mitad del siglo xix, con una incipiente vida concert\u00edstica condicionada igualmente por la \u00f3pera.
