Se encontr\u00f3 que estas fases tienen una estabilidad comparable a la fase zincblenda siendo el ge(34) m\u00e1s estable que el ge(46). Ambos pueden tener propiedades \u00f3pticas: el ge(46) tiene un band gap amplio pero indirecto, el clatrato ge(34) tiene un amplio band gap directo.  se estudi\u00f3 la estabilidad graf\u00edtica de la monocapa aislada de c, bn, sic, si, y gaas. Se obtuvo que c, bn y sic prefieren mantener su monocapa en un plano (simetr\u00eda d6h) mientras que si, y gaas se corrugan (simetr\u00eda d3d). La estabilidad de la fase corrugada del si es cr\u00edtica. Las energ\u00edas de si y gaas se predicen correctamente por un simple modelo energ\u00e9tico.
